The good news on the steroid beat:
NASCAR has no steroid problem, and that comes straight from a person who knows what steroids are:
I'll have to take his word for it, especially since I have no idea what a "catch-can man" is or does..."I don't think there are steroids in NASCAR and I'd be surprised if there ever was," said Tim Goad, the pit crew coach for Ken Schrader's team. Goad played in the NFL for 10 seasons after playing college football for North Carolina.
"When you look around the garage, there are a limited number of places where you would even think that would help," said Goad, himself a former jack man on pit crews. "Maybe the jack man or the catch-can man ... but jacking a car is more technique than strength."
Not only is technique more important that strength, he said, too much muscle buildup could be more hindrance than help in most pit crew positions where speed is more important.
"If they come up with something that makes you move faster, you might want to get out the test tubes," Goad said. "But until then, I don't think steroids are a problem here."
